Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Monguno Local Government Area (LGA), situated in Borno State, is one of the regions heavily impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency, resulting in widespread displacement of communities. The displacement crisis has led to the establishment of numerous internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, where families are struggling to maintain stability amidst a volatile security situation. Geopolitical instability in the region has had a profound effect on various sectors, including education. Schools have been destroyed, teachers displaced, and the educational environment severely disrupted. The region's geopolitical context, marked by armed conflict, socio-political instability, and the struggle for control over resources, has exacerbated the difficulties faced by displaced children in accessing education (Abubakar & Sulaiman, 2023).
This study explores the effect of this geopolitical instability on the education of internally displaced children in Monguno. It aims to examine the barriers that these children face in accessing quality education, the role of local, state, and federal governments in mitigating the impact, and the potential long-term consequences for their educational outcomes. The research will also analyze the responses of humanitarian organizations and international agencies to address the educational needs of displaced children in the region.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The ongoing conflict in Borno State, especially in Monguno, has resulted in a crisis for displaced children whose access to education has been severely hindered by the instability. The lack of infrastructure, teachers, and safe learning environments has caused a significant disruption in the educational trajectory of these children, affecting their future prospects and contributing to the region's broader socio-economic challenges. This study seeks to assess how geopolitical instability influences educational opportunities for displaced children in Monguno and suggest ways to improve their access to education.

1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypothesis
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it highlights the educational challenges faced by internally displaced children in a conflict-affected region of Nigeria. The findings will provide valuable insights for policymakers, humanitarian agencies, and educational planners to design targeted interventions to address the educational needs of displaced populations and contribute to rebuilding the educational system in post-conflict settings.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on Monguno LGA, Borno State, and will specifically examine the educational challenges faced by internally displaced children. Limitations include challenges in data collection due to security concerns and the sensitivity of working with displaced populations.
